Exhibition — Collectors, Curators, Connoisseurs: OCS Centenary

Who: The Oriental Ceramic Society was founded in 1921 by 12 collectors of Asian art. George Eumorfopoulos was the first president of the society, which became open to the public in 1933. Items in members' collections featured in many exhibitions which the society organised, and were ultimately bequeathed to museums across the country.

What: An exhibition in The Brunei Gallery, SOAS University of London, featuring over 100 examples of Asian art, including three pieces lent by Winchester College, to mark the centenary of the Oriental Ceramic Society.

When: Until the 11th of December, 11:00–17:00 (T, W, T, F, S, S) — booking in advance is essential.

Where: The Brunei Gallery, SOAS University of London.

Why: This exhibition helps to explain how so much of certain types of Asian art has ended up in museums across the country, and why some types, specifically paintings, are inadequately represented. The exhibition has some of the finest examples of Chinese porcelain in the country.

How: You can book tickets for the exhibition here: soas.ac.uk/gallery/ocs100. You can also watch a series of videos about the exhibition here (orientalceramicsociety.org.uk/ocs-centenary), including three from Winchester College (youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWj3waYjYI2dF72wzFZVkgGccoQtPdBQ2).
