Census Day

In 2001 this plaque was put up in a cupboard in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, in the Houses of Parliament by Tony Benn MP. He went with Jeremy Corbyn to do it. At the end of the day, they collected a toolbox, the plaque and an electrical drill, without permission from the relevant authorities. They made their way through Parliament to screw the plaque in. However, a policeman saw them, making for a rather uncomfortable encounter. They said they were going to the Chapel, and the policeman helpfully unlocked the door for them, unquestioning. Although there was uproar in the House of Commons, the plaque remains there today.
